Senior Data Scientist

About the role

As a Senior Data Scientist in bp's Forward Digital Delivery (FDE) team, you will be the trusted technical partner for one of bp's Upstream operating regions. You will own the end‑to‑end delivery of high‑value data science and AI solutions, turning data into decisions that drive measurable business impact.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the embedded, go‑to technical partner for the region, delivering end‑to‑end AI solutions from discovery to production‑ready outcomes.
• Lead rapid design and build of proofs‑of‑concept on live data, engineered for scale and governed by AI best practices.
• Apply advanced machine learning and AI engineering to generate quantified business value across the region.
• Mentor and coach less‑experienced data scientists and business users, fostering technical fluency and adoption.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience delivering end‑to‑end data science, machine learning and AI solutions with proven business impact.
• Degree in a quantitative field (advanced degree desirable) or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong partner and influencing skills, with a track record of being a trusted technical advisor.
• Ability to work autonomously embedded within the business, handling data quality, process and adoption challenges.

Required skills

• Expert programming in Python and SQL, with experience building, deploying and sustaining models and data pipelines.
• Experience with Palantir Foundry (Ontology, AIP) – preferred.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot) and modern MLOps/productionisation practices.
