Data Scientist

About the role

As a Data Scientist in bp's FDE team, you will be embedded within an Upstream operating region in Baku, turning live data into actionable decisions. You will partner with business customers to deliver AI‑driven solutions that address high‑value, complex problems quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and frame high‑value data science and AI opportunities with regional business stakeholders.
• Build rapid, scalable proofs‑of‑concept on live data and own the solution from discovery through adoption.
• Apply machine learning and AI techniques to achieve measurable outcomes such as cost reduction, safety improvement, and production protection.
• Collaborate with AI tooling as a virtual team member to accelerate development cycles.
• Coach business users on AI and data tools to ensure lasting adoption.

Required profile

• ~3+ years of hands‑on experience delivering data science, machine learning or AI solutions in fast‑paced environments.
• Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics) or equivalent experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or R, and SQL, with ability to build data pipelines and models.
• Proven ability to translate ambiguous business problems into data‑driven solutions and communicate results to non‑technical audiences.
• Customer‑centric mindset with a bias for rapid value delivery and end‑to‑end ownership.
