Senior/Lead Back End Engineer

About the role

RemoFirst is seeking a Senior/Lead Back End Engineer to own and evolve its global HR platform. You will work remotely with international product, design, and engineering teams, driving both Python‑based services and a strategic migration to Java.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python and Java.
• Support and lead the gradual migration of Python services to Java, ensuring stability.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
• Participate in system design and architectural discussions, focusing on service boundaries and micro‑service architecture.
• Integrate third‑party services and external APIs.
• Write clean, well‑tested, maintainable code following best practices.
• Conduct code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability, observability, and performance.
• Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams across time zones.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend software development experience.
• Strong professional experience with Python (Django, FastAPI, Flask or similar).
• Strong professional experience with Java, preferably using Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of object‑oriented design, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL); exposure to NoSQL is a plus.
• Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing, and test‑driven development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern development workflows.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to performance and scalability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
