Economist – UN Resident Coordinator Office, Baku

About the role

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Baku is seeking an Economist to provide evidence‑based economic and policy analysis that supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) acceleration, economic transformation and financing. Reporting to the Head of the Resident Coordinator Office, the incumbent will work closely with the UN Country Team, national authorities and development partners.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct economic, social and sustainable‑development analysis, identifying trends, challenges and policy options for SDG acceleration, green and just transition, digital transformation and the future of work.
• Support the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team in preparing the Common Country Analysis, Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, roadmaps and joint programmes, ensuring alignment with SDG financing strategies.
• Generate knowledge products such as policy papers, briefing notes and analytical reports on macro‑economic developments and innovative financing approaches.
• Engage with government ministries, International Financial Institutions, private‑sector actors, academia and civil society to foster partnerships that advance sustainable economic transformation and blended financing.
• Monitor national, regional and global economic developments, assess their implications for the country’s SDG agenda and provide inputs for strategic foresight and data‑driven decision‑making.
