Senior Legal Counsel – Banking

About the role

The legal team of a leading bank is seeking an experienced professional to ensure legal compliance of banking activities and manage legal risks. You will play an active role in contract expertise, business process evaluation, risk mitigation, and providing legal support to business units.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement legal frameworks for new products, projects, and business processes.
• Conduct strategic assessment and reduction of legal risks across the bank.
• Perform expert review of complex, high‑value, strategic and international contracts.
• Support the preparation of internal corporate documents and advise structural units on legal matters.
• Monitor legislative changes continuously and evaluate their impact on the business.
• Manage communication with foreign and local regulators, supervisory authorities, and law‑enforcement agencies.

Required profile

• Law degree (master’s preferred) with at least 3 years of professional experience in corporate, banking or contract law.
• Strong knowledge of Azerbaijani civil, banking, labor, commercial and financial legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Deep expertise in high‑risk contracts, corporate operations, internal normative documents and legal strategies.
• Proven ability to analyse legislative changes and anticipate business impact.
• Excellent analytical thinking, strategic decision‑making and alignment of legal goals with business objectives.
• Fluent in preparing legal documents and conducting negotiations in English or Russian.

Required skills

• Proficient use of MS Office.
• Experience with AI tools for legal work.
• Skilled in using legal research databases.
• Familiarity with contract management systems.
