International Urban Design Lead Expert

About the role

The International Urban Design Lead Expert will provide strategic and technical support for sustainable post‑conflict recovery and urbanisation of cities and towns in Azerbaijan, aligning with the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of master plans for two settlements, including data collection, diagnostic assessments, sectoral and detailed plans, and design solutions.
• Support knowledge generation, exchange, and capacity‑building activities for urban actors in Azerbaijan.
• Collaborate closely with UN‑Habitat’s Urban Lab team, local authorities, and the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture.

Required profile

• Strong professional background in urban design, architecture, and sustainable urban development.
• Demonstrated international experience in urban and neighbourhood design, urban‑rural linkages, participatory design, and capacity building, preferably in recovery and reconstruction contexts.
