Chief Mate

About the role

Saipem is seeking an experienced Chief Mate to support the Master on offshore pipelay vessels equipped with an 8‑point mooring system. The role combines safety leadership, deck department management and direct involvement in complex anchoring and ballasting operations.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure ship safety and security, act as Vessel Safety Officer and Ship Security Officer according to SOLAS and ISPS Code.
• Supervise the deck department, coordinate anchor handling, mooring and ballast operations, and perform stability and lifting calculations.
• Maintain watchkeeping on the bridge, manage radio communications, GMDSS and distress alerts.
• Oversee implementation of the Ship Security Plan, conduct safety drills and enforce HSEQ policies.
• Serve as focal point for class inspections, internal certification checks and coordinate vessel maintenance with project QCC.

Required profile

• Maritime education with STCW certificates, National CoC Reg. II/2 endorsement.
• Minimum 3 years experience as Chief Mate on offshore pipelay vessels using an 8‑point mooring system.
• Fluent in Azerbaijani and good command of English.

Required skills

• Operation of 8‑point spread mooring systems and anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels.
• Stability and ballast control calculations, including trim and stress analysis.
• Lifting and rigging certification management.
• Radio watchkeeping, GMDSS and compliance with SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MARPOL.
