Waterflood SME (Senior Specialist)

About the role

The Waterflood SME is a senior, hands‑on specialist within the Reservoir Development team, tasked with building the organisation's waterflood capability from the ground up. Reporting to the VP Reservoir Development, the role works closely with Reservoir Engineering, Production Engineering and Operations to design, implement and monitor waterflood projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assess current injection and pressure support on a pattern‑by‑pattern basis using historical performance data.
• Design the waterflood, selecting patterns, target injection rates, water specifications and interfacing with facilities.
• Plan and supervise injectivity testing, and measure injection conformance through profiles, tracer programs and interference analysis.
• Establish injection operating limits for each well, ensuring operation below fracture pressure.
• Build injection surveillance routines, including voidage replacement tracking, pattern balancing and monthly target‑rate reviews.
• Act as technical interface with service providers for waterflood studies and injection services.
• Integrate flood performance into production forecasts to align injection plans with production targets.
• Transfer capability to the local team, enabling independent surveillance activities.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of experience in Petroleum or Reservoir Engineering with waterflooding as a core expertise.
• Proven field‑scale water injection management, including rates, operating limits, conformance and target‑rate review processes.
• Strong background in surveillance design and execution (injectivity testing, tracer programs, interference analysis, pattern balancing).
• Experience in mature clastic fields, preferably in the Caspian or broader FSU region.
• Ability to make technical decisions with sparse legacy data and clearly communicate uncertainty.
