Approval Person for Lifting Operations

About the role

The Approval Person for Lifting Operations ensures the effective implementation of the HSE policy and the Lifting Management System for all lifting and handling activities. Acting on behalf of the Managing Director/General Manager, this role guarantees compliance with company requirements, legislation and technical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the Approval Person for Lifting Operations and represent senior management in lifting matters.
• Review and technically validate Category 2/3 lift plans, and monitor Category 1, 2 and 3 lifting operations.
• Prepare lifting dossiers for complex operations and obtain validation from a competent Level 4 person where required.
• Review third‑party lifting procedures and develop overload test procedures when needed.
• Attend or ensure representation by a competent person during the most complex Category 3 lifting operations.
• Provide technical advice on lifting and handling to project managers and other functions.
• Support selection, qualification and performance evaluation of contractors providing lifting services.
• Participate in incident investigations, audits and KPI reporting related to lifting activities.

Required profile

• Master of Science in Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in lifting and handling operations, preferably in the oil and gas sector.
• Strong presentation skills and understanding of drilling operations are an advantage.
• Fluent in Azerbaijani and English.
• Relevant certifications and credentials listed under Required skills.

• OPITO Approved Rigging & Lifting – Level 3‑4 (mandatory for CPLO roles).
• OPITO Approved Banksman Slinger – Level 3‑4.
• ECITB Rigger ICE – Level 3 & Level 4.
• Rigging Engineering – Level 2.
• Responsible Person for Lifting Operations (RPO) / Appointed Person credentials.
• ECITB IHSP – Advanced & Supervisor Levels.
• BOSIET (OPITO) – Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader & Helideck Certified.
